the brief beauty that the life you knew is finally over
You leave your apartment to go to work
It’s like any other Sunday, school
starts back Monday but your body
is aching against the clock
In the shower you hastily take before you leave
you stare down at the body you once hated,
covered in the same soap and self-loathing,
you admit it’s still proof that things can change
As you walk head down to your car
you look up long enough to notice that outside
in the lawn of your shitty apartment, the grass
is the greenest you’ve ever seen
On this sunny February morning,
You can finally feel your jaw unlock
The cold chills on your spin dissipate
And you live in this moment
You imagine yourself running through
Green grass like that, running and spinning
You even smile to yourself as you pass,
Keeping it to yourself as a sweet secret
The vision sticks with you, but you can’t remember
whether it’s a dream or a memory but as you drive
to your dead-end job, forever running against the clock
It is still a brief and beautiful reminder
That the life you once knew, is finally over.
